Brakebill Cemetery Re-Dedication, May 14
You may recall that in November, the Boy Scouts worked to clear brush and mark graves in the Peter Breakbill Family Cemetery. The Blount County Genealogical and Historical Society, Stephen Holston Chapter SAR, and Mary Blount Chapter DAR are having a re-dedication ceremony at the cemetery on Saturday, May 14, 2016. You are invited to attend. Attendees are asked to meet at Cedar Grove Baptist Church at 1:30 pm. The church is located at the intersection of Nails Creek Rd. and N. Wildwood Rd. The address is: 5302 Nails Creek Rd. Maryville.
It will be necessary to ride to the Brakebill Cemetery on horse-drawn and tractor-drawn wagons. There is no access to the old cemetery by car. At this time, 3 wagons have been booked. Ken Cornett has asked that we give him an estimate of the number of people who will attend so he can determine if hiring additional wagons will be necessary. If you would like to attend, please let me know this week so I can give Ken a head count. Please wear period dress or suitable outdoor clothing and walking shoes. This will be a fun event and I hope you will come out to honor Peter Breakbill.
Peter Breakbill was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1760 and died in Blount County in 1844. He served during the Revolution from Pennsylvania and Virginia. His grave marker was dedicated on October 26, 1958, by the Mary Blount Chapter.
Hope you can make it,
Pat Reilly, Regent
Mary Blount Chapter DAR
